The origins of this magnificient trophy dates back to the 2004 Ceroc Bay Of Plenty Championships. This competition was only held once and had several categories that dancers could enter. One of those categories was the Challenge Trophy which the winners were Steve Carr (Auckland) & Louisa Julian (Hamilton Westcoast Swing).
In 2022 Steve & Louisa kindly donated the trophy to Ceroc Dance New Zealand, who inturn presented it to Ceroc Dance Waikato for their Championships.
The criteria & rules for being invited to compete in this category was agreed between Steve, Louisa & Ceroc Dance Waikato:
The Judging Criteria plus the enthusiasm, energy, partnership caring and the shared love for the Ceroc Dance style that dancers bring to their dance will be used to select the invitees and ultimately the winner.
Category Rules
- Six couples made up of a Lead & Follow will be choosen from across the following categories:
Newcomer, Intermediate B & A Freestyles
Any same level pairings up to Intermediate A or split levels ie Advance or Champion with a Newcomer or Intermediate Dancer competing in the Creative Categories with the exception of Triples, Swaps & Steals, Open & Switch. - The Lead & Follow cannot interchange their roles.
- A select group of Judges including the Head Judge will select the six couples from the above categorys.
- No aerials allowed.
- A final will be run for the six couples with the winning couple being awarded the Invitational Challenge Cup.
